Ecological and Sonic Immersion

Dive into The Song Trapper, a multisensory immersive video installation by Danish artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen, where a mute protagonist—the first in a series for his opera-video game project Evoker—navigates virtual worlds inspired by threatened ecosystems, collecting and remixing lost vocal echoes to explore the loss of voice, ecological memory, and human-nature interactions.

At the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the work unfolds across vertical LED screens resembling stained glass in Gallery 8, with a mural landscape in swampy-blue tones, a custom fragrance with amphibian and algae notes by Yann Vasnier, and spatialized sound mapped using gaming technologies, blending compositions by Matt McCorkle, vocals by Lyra Pramuk, and environmental sounds for a poetic narration in free verse.

Born from ink and watercolor drawings modeled in 3D, this virtual performance—choreographed with Iris Thomsen via motion capture—confronts the Song Trapper with Nökken, an aquatic spirit teaching song, in terrains drawn from the artist’s travels: submarine volcanoes, desert lakes, crystalline marshes, for an introspective odyssey on animating the world through sound and gesture.

Dates and Duration

From October 17, 2025, to March 2, 2026, this installation spans four and a half months, extending the virtual exploration into spring for an evolving immersive experience.

Open Monday through Sunday except Tuesday, with guided tours available to decode the layers of sound and scent.

This generous duration allows for repeat visits, enriching the perception of dynamic interactions over time.

Opening Hours

Open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11am to 8pm, Friday from 11am to 10pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 8pm (last entry one hour before closing, late-night opening on the first Friday of each month until 11pm), closed Tuesdays and December 25.

The video loop lasts 20 minutes and 55 seconds, encouraging a rhythmic exploration.

Extended hours accommodate urban schedules while prolonging the sensory experience into the evening.

Address and Access

Full address: Fondation Louis Vuitton, 8 Avenue du Mahatma Gandhi, 75116 Paris.

Located in the Bois de Boulogne in the 16th arrondissement, the foundation is accessible by metro (line 1, Les Sablons station; line 9, Pont de Neuilly station) or bus (line 73).

This iconic Frank Gehry building amplifies immersion, blending fluid architecture with virtual ecological worlds.

Tickets and Accessibility

Admission is €16 for adults (€10 reduced for students and seniors, €5 for children 6–18 years; free for under 6 years); family ticket €32 (2 adults + 1–4 children).

Online booking is required for time slots; multilingual audio guides €5, guided tours €25, and accommodations for disabilities (elevators, hearing loops) ensure full inclusion.

This balanced pricing democratizes immersive art, making the installation accessible to a diverse and family audience.

Artistic Context

Born in 1987 in Denmark, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, trained at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, has spent over a decade exploring rare or threatened ecosystems—marshes, submarine volcanoes, glaciers—using game engines, photogrammetry, and generative systems to create virtual worlds that question the psychological impact of climate change and our relationship with technology.

His work has been seen at the Serpentine Pavilion (2017) and the Venice Biennale (2022), fusing real and digital terrain, as in Berl-Berl (2021) or The Ephemeral Lake (2024), for a speculative ecology where poetic narration and interaction reveal buried memories.

Curated by Claudia Buizza and Ludovic Delalande, this first solo exhibition in Paris—supported by the Fondation and in partnership with Mudam Luxembourg (2027)—introduces the Song Trapper as a pioneering figure, affirming Steensen as a builder of immersive narratives where code, sound, and environment compose a contemporary ecological opera.
