Journey and Spirit of the Collection

Dive into “A Collector’s Vision,” a tribute to Oscar Ghez, visionary industrialist and passionate art lover, who began assembling nearly 5,000 works in the 1950s, going against the grain of prevailing trends by focusing on figures and portraits rather than the landscape-dominated art of the era.

This chronological and thematic journey brings together nearly 60 masterpieces now held at the Petit Palais in Geneva, which Ghez founded in 1968, tracing the evolution of French painting from the late 19th century through the avant-garde movements of the 20th century.

Artists and Movements

From Impressionists to Neo-Impressionists: Caillebotte (including Le Pont de l’Europe), Bazille, Luce, Cross, Van Rysselberghe.

Nabis, Fauves, and Modernists: Vallotton, Valtat, Manguin, Dufy.

Toward the Avant-Garde: Bracquemond, Valadon, Lempicka, and Cubism with Picasso (L’Aubade).

Ghez gave a strong spotlight to women artists, revealing major careers long overlooked.
